Is Wildcard Suitable for Me?
Is Wildcard Suitable for Me?
Choosing a gym isn’t just about equipment, classes, or location. It’s about fit.
Wildcard isn’t designed to be everything to everyone, and that is very deliberate.
This post will help you decide, honestly, whether Wildcard is the right place for you.
Wildcard is for you if…
You want to train, not just exercise
If you enjoy the process of getting better. If you want to be lifting heavier, moving better, learning new skills then you’ll feel at home here. Our sessions are coached, structured, and progressive. We care about how you move, not just how tired you are at the end.
Progress matters to us. Not random sweat.
You like being coached (and corrected)
At Wildcard, coaching doesn’t stop after the warm-up. You’ll get cues, feedback, and sometimes uncomfortable truths about your movement or effort level. Those half squats or press ups we see others doing on Instagram are not going to cut the mustard. You will be straight onto some progressions until you can complete the movement properly.
If you want someone to notice what you’re doing and help you improve it, this is a good thing.
You value consistency over hype
We don’t chase daily novelty for the sake of it. Programming is planned, purposeful, and built around long-term development: strength, conditioning, skill, and resilience. Our programming is progressive over 6-8week cycles (usually) and your progress will be confirmed through testing and re-testing.
If you’re tired of bouncing from program to program and want something that actually works over time, you’ll appreciate this approach.
You like training in a motivated environment
Wildcard members show up, work hard, and support each other. It’s not loud for the sake of it, but it is focused.
People here take their training seriously, even if they don’t take themselves too seriously.
WORK HARD, PLAY HARD.
You want accountability
You’ll be noticed if you disappear. You’ll be challenged if you coast. And you’ll be supported if you’re struggling.
Expect a message or call from Coach Jake if you have been MIA for a week or two, expect quarterly goal settings to keep you on track and expect other members to also hassle you when you sleep in and turn off that early alarm!
If that sounds helpful rather than intimidating, you are probably a good fit.
Wildcard might not be for you if…
You’re looking for a casual, drop-in gym
If you want to come and go anonymously, follow your own plan, or avoid interaction, headphones in and scrolling social media, Wildcard probably isn’t what you’re after.
This is a coached training environment, not an open-access fitness gym (although we do have open-access included with our ’dedicated’ membership)
You only want “easy” sessions
Training here is scalable, but it isn’t designed to be comfortable. Some days will be hard. Some days will expose weaknesses.
If you’re not open to being challenged, frustrated, or pushed a little, you may find it confronting.
You’re chasing aesthetics only
While many members get leaner, stronger, and more confident, aesthetics are a by product, not the goal.
If your only focus is burning calories or looking a certain way as fast as possible, our approach may feel slower, even though it’s more sustainable.
You are going to look great naked, but that cannot be the primary goal or it just won’t work.
So… is Wildcard suitable for you?
Wildcard is for people who want:
- Coaching, not babysitting
- Progress, not randomness
- Community, not anonymity
- Training, not just exercise
If that sounds like you, we’d love to have you in.
And if it doesn’t, that’s okay too. The right gym is the one you’ll commit to. If you are not enjoying it then you will not keep going back.
If you’re unsure, the best next step is simple:
Book in, have an in-person consultation and give it a go! What have you got to lose?!
